What Is Slurry Seal?

Slurry seal is a homogeneous mixture. It includes well-graded fine aggregate, emulsified asphalt, and mineral filler. When applied to pavement surfaces, it has a fluid-like appearance. We use three basic aggregate gradations, which include:

• Type I or fine
• Type II or general
• Type III or coarse

Each gradation has a specific use. Fine aggregate is used to fill small surface cracks by creating a thin level over the pavement. Sometimes, we can use a Type I aggregate slurry as a pre-treatment before an HMA overlay.
